Building Monterey

I work fast and improvisationally. 2 layers of soda soaked silk and thickened dye in my extruder.

Continuing with my extruder, foam rollers and brushes.

In an attempt to speed up the process, I screen printed over top of the hand painting.

More additions with rollers and brushes. Nearing completion.

Tape is off, time to wash out.

Washed out.

Time to cut. Cutting along the white lines and exploring different layers.

Cut pieces getting stitched.

Stitching in the sunlight.

Gathering thoughts.

I never know where my ideas come from, but 30 years ago I went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

15 years ago “Bloom” happened. Combining wax resist, layers of silk organza, serged edges, and a memory.
