Flour Paste Resist

I am just realizing that almost all of my surface design work focuses on resists of one kind or another. Since I have been at this for close to 50 years I guess I’m a little late in making this connection. What intrigues me about the resists is the opportunity to work in layers and create marks that are specific to the process. I have most recently starting working with flour paste resist once again. Here is a detail of a current piece

Tear 2018

This grew out of a project begun at Haystack with Caroline Lathan-Siefel. I had an older flour paste on silk that I slashed to fulfill a pieced assignment.

This was 14”x!4” and from years ago. I had some notes, but much was lost to time

I liked it well enough to do it again in the studio on a larger scale. Ah the learning curve. Bigger was more of a challenge.
